And why? This was my first Catherine Cooper book (I have her previous two sitting on my shelves) and I was truly impressed。 Her writing is seamless and the plot really had me gripped。 I read a lot of psychological thrillers so have pretty much seen (read?) it all, but this one felt unique。 There’s a sub plot going on which I absolutely loved。 It felt totally different to the main plot and for the life of me I couldn’t see how it was going to come together, but it did so magnificently。 I also loved hearing about life on board a cruise ship, a topic i don’t know that much about as I’ve never really fancied that kind of holiday。 Even less so now! Exceptionally well plotted, captivating and very clever, The Cruise is a trip you won’t forget in a hurry。 。。。more

Catherine Cooper has written another cracking piece of fiction。 Lola is a dancer on the Immanis, an eighteen-decked cruise ship。 The ship caters to the moneyed and on New Year's Eve, Lola goes missing。 Some passengers believe they saw a person fall into the sea。 The ship returns and goes into dry dock with only a skeleton staff, but there are other people vanishing。。。The story is told from the perspectives of varying characters, with different timelines and locations。 The setting of the ship was Catherine Cooper has written another cracking piece of fiction。 Lola is a dancer on the Immanis, an eighteen-decked cruise ship。 The ship caters to the moneyed and on New Year's Eve, Lola goes missing。 Some passengers believe they saw a person fall into the sea。 The ship returns and goes into dry dock with only a skeleton staff, but there are other people vanishing。。。The story is told from the perspectives of varying characters, with different timelines and locations。 The setting of the ship was richly described in all its majestic glory。 With plenty of unsettling notes, my attention never wavered。 Even though few of the characters were really likable they were all excellently drawn and were perfect in their roles。 I wasn't sure which direction the story was travelling in, in part as I followed the seemingly innocuous details。 The Cruise was entertaining, clever and mesmerising with brilliant pacing and an all-embracing ending and I'm sure you'll want to keep turning the pages。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HarperCollins via NetGalley。 This review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Having visited The Chateau and The Chalet I was looking forward to The Cruise。 Dancer Lola goes missing from the boat。 Meanwhile in Inverness and Catford we learn about a young girl snatched from her family to life an isolated life with an apparently loving but stifling father。 All loose ends are nicely tied up in a racy read though there is less cruise-related action than one might expect。 What comes next? The Caravan? The Cave? Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for a fair review

Thriller becalmed as cruise ship fails to cruise 。。。 and other disasters。I had been LONGING for the release of this promising book after enjoying The Chalet and to a lesser extent, The Chateau。 I simply adore location thrillers and Caribbean cruises and have long thought how I would love to read a top notch thriller exploiting the cruise itinerary so you get a murder mystery and a lovely holiday all in one。It began very well with plenty of luxury cruise ship details and an immediate murder - excellent。Then more about life on a Cruise ship, this time from the crew's point of view - again excellent。Another dramatic event 。。。 perfect。Then suddenly we were in the Scottish Highlands in flashback - OK not what I signed on for, but happy to take a detour。This could have been a completely different book, but I was still engaged and enjoying it,Next it became clear how the two stories fitted together and where two of the main characters became rather unlikable。Next thing we find out the Cruise ship is no longer cruising 。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。 whaaaaaat???Instead it is laid up for refurb/overhaul with a skeleton staff and seems to be moored in an unknown place just called "The Caribbean"。 Disappointing! I signed on for a cruise not to be just bobbing about endlessly while these works are carried out on the ship。 Yes the cast is sort of here, the Captain, the Chef (unlikely that a Michelin starred chef would be kept to feed the crew) the Doctor, fun boy Rick and a dancer who has decided to stay on board as 。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。a cleaner 。。。。。 due to being traumatised by previous events。Unbelievable! Well life on a cruise ship no longer cruising is no longer fun for me。 I had hoped for a "If it's Tuesday, it's Aruba" style fun。 Another day another port, another amazing excursion all with would up with suspenseful, mysterious twists and turns amongst the palms。 What a huge wasted opportunity。 I remember now being also disappointed that there was a lot of under exploited mileage in the Chateau as well, but on this one we do not even take the titular "Cruise" which left me feeling really ripped off。As the cruise ship is boringly at anchor location known only as "The Caribbean", the plot becomes frenetic, with raising body count and the two principle characters become more and more absurd。 One transcends into a wimpy Frank Spencer with mortuary slap slick and the other into a sort of charmless candy coated psychopath。 There is even Blue Petering below decks with papier mache - really? At this stage I was ready to pull the plug and scupper the whole thing。So I did, I thought I had embarked on a joyous cruise where I could vicariously enjoy cocktails on the top deck, swimming in the pools while the dolphins frolic off the starboard bow - boarding the tender with my sun hat for a day ashore all with a delicious murder mystery to solve on a luxurious ocean voyage。I have no idea how this ended as just had enough of the two main characters and bonkers plot for which you needed to throw disbelief overboard as just so very contrived, in a cartwheel to crush a butterfly murder concerning people I would have been delighted to see going to prison or even executed as they were so obnoxious,There were quite a few cha[ters left of this shipwreck when I disembarked - even if it got a whole lot better it would not make up for the high hopes I had dashed on the high seas in a thriller which did not do what it said on the can。 What a wasted opportunity, well enough written but just a giant damp squib instead of the glorious fireworks it could have been。 。。。more

An exceptional psychological thriller。 A cruise is a place for relaxation and fun, to be spoilt and live in the moment, isn't it? Another great read from Catherine Cooper。 This is a bit of a tricky one to review as there’s a backstory but you don’t realise who this person is until later on in the book。 We get to know Alice who works on the cruise ship and runs the restaurant and a few other characters also have their own chapters。 There’s a possible death on the ship, a definite death and a missing person to get to grips with and like I said a revelation later in the book。 Apologies for not going into too much detail but I Another great read from Catherine Cooper。 This is a bit of a tricky one to review as there’s a backstory but you don’t realise who this person is until later on in the book。 We get to know Alice who works on the cruise ship and runs the restaurant and a few other characters also have their own chapters。 There’s a possible death on the ship, a definite death and a missing person to get to grips with and like I said a revelation later in the book。 Apologies for not going into too much detail but I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you。 This is a great thriller。 Thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book。 。。。more

Did struggle to get into the cruise as u found it quite a bit slow at some parts and other parts I did like as they kept me going till the end, however with most things that happened in this book, I wasn't quite expecting them at all so they were good too。The plot of the book was alright, there wasn't anything wrong with the plot of the book at all, the only aspect was that I didn't like some of the characters actions throughout, however the ending of the book had me guessing if that was going t Did struggle to get into the cruise as u found it quite a bit slow at some parts and other parts I did like as they kept me going till the end, however with most things that happened in this book, I wasn't quite expecting them at all so they were good too。The plot of the book was alright, there wasn't anything wrong with the plot of the book at all, the only aspect was that I didn't like some of the characters actions throughout, however the ending of the book had me guessing if that was going to be the end of it, but in all fairness nothing never ends does it。 。。。more

I don't read a lot of thrillers and murder mysteries, so it's always fun for me to pick up a total page turner with life and death stakes, and with growing curiosity about who committed various nefarious deeds and why。 The Cruise delivers that page-turning suspense in spades, blending two timelines that eventually merge to unveil not just how people are dying, but why。 The high-class cruise ship provides loads of glamour with its upscale restaurants and suites, but it also creates a sense of cla I don't read a lot of thrillers and murder mysteries, so it's always fun for me to pick up a total page turner with life and death stakes, and with growing curiosity about who committed various nefarious deeds and why。 The Cruise delivers that page-turning suspense in spades, blending two timelines that eventually merge to unveil not just how people are dying, but why。 The high-class cruise ship provides loads of glamour with its upscale restaurants and suites, but it also creates a sense of claustrophobia perfect for a murder mystery。 No one can escape。 Everyone's on edge。 Gossip moves at lightning speed。 And what did people *really* see the night a beautiful young dancer went missing? With a host of unreliable narrators and an unsettling backstory that makes even the closest alliances threaten to break, this is a great fit for murder mystery readers who enjoy luxe atmosphere and an eerie look into the psychology of what might turn someone into a killer。 。。。more

Thank you to harper Collins UK for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review。New Year's Eve on a cruise ship, and passengers think they see someone fall overboard。 Lola the dancer is missing, Weeks later the ship is down to a skeleton staff while they do some repairs, and people start being killed。 Everyone is worried, and everyone seems to have their own secrets they want to keep hidden。Years earlier, a little girl is kidnapped, and has had little contact with the outside worl Thank you to harper Collins UK for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review。New Year's Eve on a cruise ship, and passengers think they see someone fall overboard。 Lola the dancer is missing, Weeks later the ship is down to a skeleton staff while they do some repairs, and people start being killed。 Everyone is worried, and everyone seems to have their own secrets they want to keep hidden。Years earlier, a little girl is kidnapped, and has had little contact with the outside world, that is until she is found, taken to hospital, and doesn't remember or know that she isn't who she says she is。I LOVED this book。 From the first chapter, I could not put it down。 I read this book entirely over the course of 24 hours then just sat there shocked at how all the stories fitted together。 I almost wanted to read it again to see if there were any clues or foreshadowing that predicted the end。Having read many books of this style I thought I had guessed the plot from fairly early on, but I should have known that there would be more to this than met the eye, and right up until the last page, the twists kept coming。Because cruises are probably the only thing I like more than books, I have read a couple of books based on cruise ships, and end up getting annoyed by them not seeming realistic enough。 This one was really good though, even the descriptions of the staff areas were accurate, and the writer had clearly done their research。Some of the plot was maybe a little far fetched, but really its a murder mystery so hopefully its not going to be too close to real life!I hadn't read either of this authors previous 2 books, but I will definitely be reading them soon。⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 。。。more

Having read The Chalet, I was very excited to read this。Dual timeline with no clue to the connection for a good while, I like the unpredictability of this in the novel。 Once you see the connection I could see the link between Rick and the main protagonist。Very much a book of revenge。 Characters are a mixed bag。 I liked Alice but did not find Lola likeable, Antonio was weak。 Look forward to reading The Chalet and following Catherine Cooper for her new books。
